A reflection on choice, survival mode, and the power we have to shape our own path.

Have you ever heard someone say:
"It just wasn’t meant to happen."
"Maybe it’s simply not in my cards."
"I guess some people are just lucky."
Comments like these are very common.
Behind them is often the belief that life is largely determined by forces outside of us - fate, circumstances, luck, timing, or other people’s actions.
When we see life this way, it can begin to feel as though we are simply moving through events that are already decided for us.
But what if this perspective is incomplete?
What if life is not something that merely happens to us, but something we participate in shaping - moment by moment - through the choices we make?
Luck, coincidence, or “the cards we were dealt” do not determine the course of our lives as much as we sometimes believe.
Our thoughts, decisions, and actions quietly influence the direction of our path, often in ways we only recognize later.
Even choosing not to act is still a decision, and it carries consequences.
In this way, we are constantly participating in the unfolding of our lives.
Over the years, I have heard many people express these beliefs in different ways.
Many people feel that something outside of them is determining their life - circumstances, past experiences, or simply what they believe fate has decided for them.
Yet when we begin to look deeper, another truth often appears: we have far more influence over the direction of our lives than we realize.
What I Often See in My Work
In my work with clients, I frequently meet people who have already overcome many hardships.
They are strong. They are resilient. They have survived difficult situations, relationships, or long periods of uncertainty.
But survival, as powerful as it is, can leave its own imprint.
When someone has lived in survival mode for a long time, their inner system often continues to operate from that same place - even when the original circumstances have changed.
Life may become calmer, but the mindset of survival remains.
Some people openly describe themselves as victims of what happened to them. Others would never use that word, yet their decisions still come from the same place: caution, fear, self-
protection, or the belief that life simply happens to them.
Survival is an extraordinary human ability but it was never meant to become our permanent way of living.
When we remain there too long, we stop seeing the possibilities that exist beyond it.
And often, the next step in a person’s journey is precisely this: moving from surviving life to consciously shaping it.
Life as a Labyrinth
Life can be imagined as a vast labyrinth.
Each of us enters the world with a certain landscape of possibilities - talents, challenges, opportunities, and circumstances that form the framework of our journey.
Within that framework, however, there are countless paths.
Just like in a labyrinth, we encounter crossroads again and again.
Some paths lead us forward. Some take us through unexpected turns.
And sometimes we find ourselves walking in circles until we understand the lesson that experience is trying to reveal.
Along the way we meet many people.
Some encourage us and walk beside us for a time. Others challenge us, push us into unfamiliar territory, or show us parts of ourselves we had not yet seen.
Whether the encounters are pleasant or difficult, they often serve as signs within the labyrinth - helping us understand something important about our path.
If we are willing to notice them.
At every crossroads there is a choice.
We may move forward.
We may change direction.
We may pause and reflect.
But the decision is always ours.
Free Will Within the Structure of Life
Each person is born into different circumstances. Some bring particular talents, others face
certain challenges.
These form the outer structure of our personal labyrinth.
Yet within that structure, free will remains one of our greatest powers.
We cannot control everything that happens around us. But we always have influence over how we respond, what we learn, and which direction we choose next.
Our thoughts shape our perspective. Our words influence our relationships.
Our actions move us closer to - or further from - the life we want to create.
Life therefore is not simply fate or free will alone. It is the interplay between the circumstances we encounter and the choices we make within them.
When we begin to recognize this, something shifts.
Instead of feeling trapped inside the maze, we begin navigating it with greater awareness.
And that awareness changes everything.
Awakening the Creator Within
Not everyone immediately reaches their full potential.
Some people remain lost in the maze for a time, repeating familiar patterns without realizing another path exists.
Others gradually become more aware. They begin to understand themselves more deeply and learn from the experiences life places before them.
What matters most is not perfection. It is awareness.
When we begin to see that we are not powerless - that our choices matter - we reclaim an important part of ourselves.
Over the years, one of the most meaningful moments to witness is when a person begins to see their life from a new perspective.
The moment when something shifts internally.
When they understand that they are not only survivors of their past, but also creators of what comes next.
With greater awareness, guidance, and deeper understanding, people often rediscover their ability to choose differently and move forward in ways that align with who they truly are.
The Path Forward
Life may present us with circumstances we did not choose.
But within those circumstances, we are never completely powerless.
Every moment offers an opportunity to respond differently, to see more clearly, and to choose a path that aligns more closely with who we truly are.
When we begin to recognize this, something profoundly changes.
We move from simply reacting to life…to consciously participating in its creation.
And that is where the labyrinth of life begins to reveal its hidden possibilities, new paths often appear when we open our eyes and mind to possibilities we had not seen before.
Very often, the most important turning points in life begin with a new level of understanding - the moment when we start seeing our experiences, our patterns, and our choices from a different perspective.
Helping people reach that clarity has been a meaningful part of my work for many years.
When someone begins to understand their own path more deeply, they often discover something powerful: that beyond surviving what has happened to them, they also carry the ability to shape what comes next.
And from that place, the creator within them begins to emerge.
